QA/QC Engineers have nearly 100% placement opportunity with
attractive salary in industrial construction.
Usually QA/QC Engineers are placed in engineering companies and
consulting companies involved in construction of Industrial plants and
equipments. Industries of interest are Oil
Field Industries (RIG, Gas Oil Separation Plant, Pipe line etc.), Refinery,
Petrochemical Plant, Steel Plants, Power Plants, Boilers, Ship Building, Water
Treatment Plant, Nuclear Plants and so on…
In order to achieve placement as QA/QC Engineer, engineers
would requirement to attend specialization courses with relevant
certification. Usually fresh
mechanical engineers do not have clear idea about the specialization courses
and certifications necessary to get placement in QA/QC department. This
condition became worse when candidates approach certain institutes, because
they offer variety of courses and certificates which may or may not be required
for QA/QC Engineer in industrial construction.
Hence this has to be clear at first.
The image posted in this page is a classified advertisement
for the selection of QA/QC Engineers which shows requirement of additional
qualifications. The certifications requested
are American Standard certificates and British Standard certificates – Why?
The quality control of industrial construction is usually
done in accordance with International construction Standards such as ASME, API,
AWS, ANSI, ASTM, EN, BS, BIS etc. standards.
Please note that most of these standards are American Standards and
British Standards. Hence engineers
should attend American and British standard courses to get placement as QA/QC
Engineer.
Now it is important to understand, which are the courses and
certifications? In order to make it
clear we must have some idea about the duties and responsibilities of QA/QC
Engineer in the project. Day to day
activities of QA/QC Engineers includes many activities such as Review of
Drawings (done by designer as per standard), Inspection of Raw materials,
Review of Procedures, Fit up inspection, Monitoring of Welds, Post Weld Heat
Treatment, Hardness Test, Non Destructive Inspection of welds (NDT), Surface
Preparation and painting of spools, Pressure Test, Coating Inspection,
Inspection at erection etc. Hence QA/QC
Engineers should know “How to do these activities as per relevant standard?”
Most of the above activities are done in accordance with
relevant standard (for example - ASME B
31.1 for process piping, ASME Sec VIII for construction of pressure vessel, API
650 for construction of tanks etc.) But
some activities like Welding Inspection (ASME SEC IX), Non Destructive Testing
(ASME SEC V), and Coating Inspection (SIPC) have some general standards which
is being applied in conjunction with other standards. Hence there are specialization courses in
these segments.
This situation illustrates that candidate looking for
placement as QA/QC Engineer should take care to get certified in American
Standard or British Standard. Certificates issued by ASNT, AWS, NACE, TWI,
BGAS, API etc. are considered for placement as QA/QC Engineer.
